PickettJoel Pickett, MD, FACS, is a board certified Neurosurgeon and one of the region’s most trusted experts in brain and spine care, having served the people of North Alabama since 1993.
Dr. Pickett received his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Arkansas. He completed a one-year internship in General Surgery at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, followed by a six-year residency in Neurosurgery at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.
Before going to medical school, Dr. Pickett was the Director of Respiratory Therapy at Newport Hospital and worked as a respiratory therapist.
At Huntsville Hospital Spine & Neuro Center, he specializes in skull-based tumors, cerebrovascular surgery, complex spine, and peripheral nerve surgery. He treats spine and brain issues such as:

He also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor for The University of Alabama School of Medicine - Huntsville.
In his spare time, Dr. Pickett is an avid sportsman. He enjoys fishing and being outdoors. He's a skilled pilot, too! His greatest joy, though, is spending time with his loving wife, kids and grandkids.
